1:48 Scale Diecast Model Airplanes - Hobby Master, Corgi Aviation Archive, Forces of Valor, and Smithsonian Collections
If you've ever seen a child playing with an airplane, making engine noises, and having a private adventure, the you know the joy that
diecast model aircraft can bring. "Handflying" is the art of zooming around a room with airplane in hand on one of these adventures. Most would agree that
1:48 scale aircraft, are the perfect size for hand-flying. Not too big, nor too small, this scale is just right. Perfect for a shelf display or a desk convesation piece, 1:48 scale is large enough to see virtually all the details built into a full-size aircraft yet small enough that the piece doesn't dominate a room. Made by the
Corgi Aviation Archive,
Hobby Master,
Smithsonian Diecast, and
Forces of Valor, our 1:48 scale
diecast model airplanes are pre-assembled, painted, and ready to go right out of the box. A 1:48 scale
model airplane, is 1/48th the size of the original warbird. A
P-51 Mustang model, for example, will have a wingspan of about 9 inches when scaled at 1:48. A larger aircraft, like the B-17 Flying Fortress, has a wingspan of just over two feet in this scale.
