The Soviet-made T-72 was first built in 1971 and later sold both new and used to various 3rd-world countries, like Iraq. This medium tank is powered by a V-12 diesel engine and can be fitted with two fuel drums for additional range. Its low, rounded turret mounts a 125mm smooth bore gun capable of penetrating the M1 Abrams' armor at up to 1,000 meters. It's lack of night fighting capability and target acquisition made it a death trap for hundreds of Iraqi crews.
The 1:72 T-72 by Forces of Valor uses a composite mix of metal and plastic for construction of the piece. Using diecast metal the hull shows battle damaged fenders, detailed engine vents, two external fuel barrels and a simulated wooden log--everyone likes a log. A 360 degree rotating turret with a simulated heavy canvas cover shows-off the business-end of the 125mm main gun with elevates, too. Rolling rubber tracks and wheels with suspension details are standard on all FOV tanks. Twelve smoke grenade launchers mounted on the turret prove that you can run but you can't hide. The top of the cake has a 12.7mm anti-personnel machine gun manned by a hand-painted crew figure. Very nice, indeed.
